Thanks again for joining me on WatchSmarts. This is a relaxed, conversational show — no pressure — just a great discussion that real people can enjoy and learn from.

Here’s everything you need to know to sound great, look great, and have a blast.

The Setup (Audio Matters Most)

We record audio-only via Zoom. Your confirmation email and calendar invite include the Zoom link. Just click and join at our scheduled time.

To make sure you sound crisp and professional:

  • Be in a quiet space (not a café, not in your car)

  • Avoid rooms with echo (soft surfaces help — rugs, curtains, etc.)

  • Use a headset with a built-in mic ← this is the single biggest upgrade

  • If possible, avoid hotel WiFi (if traveling, your phone hotspot is often better)

  • Silence your phone(s)

  • Make sure you Zoom audio is set to use your headset/mic

  • Restart your computer before we connect

  • Close any apps that might slow things down

During the Conversation

A few small things make a big difference:

  • Speak toward your microphone

  • Avoid turning your head away while talking

  • Don’t type, tap on your desk, or shuffle papers while speaking

  • Close doors/windows and turn off fans or AC if they’re noisy

  • Keep headphones nearby even if you don’t start with them

And have a glass of water handy. Everyone needs it.

We Keep Video On (for connection and video snippets)

Even though this is audio-only, we’ll keep video on during the conversation so we can see each other. Sometimes we use short video clips to promote the episode. Here’s how to look your best:

5 Quick Wins

  1. If you're on a laptop, raise it on a stack of books so your camera is at eye level

  2. Frame yourself so there’s just a little space above your head (“two fingers” rule)

  3. Sit centered in the frame

  4. Light your face from the front (no backlighting - close any window blinds or curtains behind you)

  5. Look at the camera (not me on your screen) when you’re speaking

The Vibe

This is not a technical deep dive for watch geeks. It’s a smart, accessible conversation for people who:

  • Like watches

  • Want to understand them better

  • Don’t want to feel intimidated doing it

So bring your stories, your opinions, lessons learned, advice, and most important - your personality.

That’s it!

Simple setup. Great conversation. Zero stress.

Looking forward to having you on the show!
